West Beckham Tidy-up
We spent the morning of October 3rd at the West Beckham Old Allotments and West Beckham Green, a lovely bit of woodland. The team of volunteers started clearing back the woodland pathways on the Green, cutting away any encroaching brambles, branches and bracken.
Andrew and Sean scythed some areas back to allow the Snowdrops a better chance of growing in the spring next year. Nick and I helped clear a semi-fallen Rowan tree with a rope as Ed finished cutting the tree down. We left the tree on the ground as it was not in the way of any paths. It will also create a nice habitat for creatures that like deadwood.
In the second part of the work party, after our morning break, we were back at the Old Allotments clearing around some of the planted trees in the far corner. Some of those trees have even outgrown their tree guards! The paths were also mown, scythed and cleared with rakes.
Around the back of the storage area, Trevor, Peter F and John cleared some space to allow for a reshuffling of some equipment, and hopefully some new storage space!
The weather really pulled through for us that day and really warmed up towards the end!
