Summertime at Sustead Common

Our plant recorder, out and about yesterday on a lovely sunny morning, was rewarded with these attractive scenes (photo courtesy of Cornel). The wild flowers are in full bloom. The creamy hogweed, the purple knapweed and the yellow fleabane combine elegantly in a tapestry of colours that only mother nature could get away with. He met a local lady who said that the apples on the tree, pictured below, have been used to make crab apple jelly. This year’s bumper harvest could keep someone busy for a very long time!
